Delaware on Purpose

Remember when we ended up in Delaware by mistake? We decided to go there on purpose for a change!

You Lord of the Rings buffs will appreciate this:

We spent a lot of time along the Brandywine yesterday!

(Hmm. I'm lookin' more and more like a Hobbit. Time to find a gym...)

This park in Wilmington was designed by the same guy who did Central Park in New York City.

The Du Pont (you know, the stainmaster carpet people) fortune was made with mills along the Brandywine. We saw what was left of these...

These old gunpowder houses were lined up along the river. They're lovely overgrown ruins now.

...and the village where the workers lived:

We ate lunch here and toured the home down the road.

Here's David "pontificating" in the "Sunday school" house. (There wasn't time on weekdays so the children would learn all subjects one day a week...Sunday!) We tried writing with quill pens.

There was also a museum filled with Du Pont innovations:

Our Mad Scientist Little Boys!

One small step for William...

The boys have been watching Disney's Cars a lot lately, so really got a kick out of this race car.

'Becca's favorite part of our trip was getting to visit her BYU roommate now living in Hockessin, Delaware (not far from Wilmington).
Here's Jon "making beautiful music" with their darling youngest just his age!

We saw some historic and beautiful places on this trip. 'Becca's friend told us that there are t-shirts sold with "Dela...Where?" written on them. We may have found "where" Delaware is accidentally, but it was fun to find a number of reasons why it's a great place to visit on purpose!

I should have showed you the streets in a neighborhood right near here that are called Shire and Rivendell. Someone else obviously liked the Brandywine connection...and yes, it's fine to use the picture, post away!

Thanks for sharing another fun adventure! You can tell by the looks on their faces that the boys are really enjoying that racecar. =) Looks 'n sounds like David's having fun, too, pontificating and venting frustrations against King George... 'Bet it was really fun visiting your friend again!
