Since Jonathan's birthday is in the summer, he had his Walk Around the Sun during the last week of school. I share about when he was born and the first year of his life, then he holds the globe and walks around a wooden sun on the floor with a lit candle in the center. Everyone sings "The earth goes around the sun, the sun. The earth goes around the sun. It takes 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days." Then I share about the second year of Jonathan's life and he walks around the sun while they sing again, and so forth until we get to this year.
Everyone sings "Happy Birthday" and he blows out the candle.
Then everyone who wants to takes a turn (including his teachers and me. David couldn't be there because he was home with William's cold) saying something they like about Jonathan. It's a good experience. We like it a lot.
Walden's elementary school program was on Thursday.
Jonathan shares a moment with Ms. Lois, the school's director, on his way to the stage.

Jonathan sewed his Kermit the Frog all by himself, and it helped him sing
"The Rainbow Connection."
William danced with his new class (the 1st-3rd grade Montessori classroom he'll be a part of for the next couple of years. He's been transitioning into it over the last few weeks.)
After the program, we ate a picnic lunch out on the field.
Walden's new high school building (that David will be teaching in next year) is behind us.
The picnic was followed by Walden's Field Day in which our boys participated for the first time.

It was fun! Summer can now begin.

This is a great post. A few things:
-Black ancestry: How closely are you related to Sirius?
-Birthday ceremony: I love this idea! I think it's a beautiful way to honor kid and make him feel so special.
And all the programs and outdoor playing look so fun. It seems like your boys had a wonderful year.
