50. The Party Continues

On Sunday, Feb. 14, we threw a surprise "wake" for David's 50th birthday. It was orchestrated using email and Facebook (which David doesn't use) so he wouldn't suspect. Gayla even came down on Friday to "celebrate" and throw David off the trail. We had 40 minutes to gather and set up while he made a short visit to help out a friend. He was TOTALLY surprised.
Gayla helped the boys make this card. She also taught Jonathan to say, "Old Man."

February 14, 2010 just after 6pm:
Surprise!!!

Gayla & Owen

Larissa and Trent

Breanne & Ian

We are so grateful to all of the friends and family who came to help celebrate David's birthday. Brian and Lindsay even came though it was Brian's birthday too! Some fun stories were told about David (that our film production major recorded for posterity.) The food, drinks and decor were awesome. (Thank you, everyone!)

We have some great signs around the house now.

Jonathan loved the food.

William loved the wrapping paper.

David appreciated the Metamucil, large diaper (Craig went out of his way to obtain one from a hospital for the occasion) and other helpful things he was given. He's already enjoyed Larissa's "movie night", and looks forward to going out to enjoy Jordan's gift as well as Rich & Jayna's. He used birthday money from Mom, Dad, Rich & Jayna to get himself a new pair of dress slacks on Saturday. And we can't wait to get his new digital picture frame up and running.

David's feelings about this milestone in his life were reflected on the festive cups we drank from that night: "50. The Party Continues."

The OLD MAN looks pretty good. Lets spread the rumor that he colors his hair - it will make me feel better.
Thanks Becca for hosting such a fun party - it was great to see how surprised the OLD MAN actually was.

David's smile (in the close-up snapshot at the doorway)shows that he was genuinely pleased as well! Good job, 'Becca and Gayla and all who helped!!! LOVE the hand-and-foot-prints of the boys on the card Gayla helped them make. =)

Happy Birthday! Don't forget that 50 is the "Jubilee Year" in the Bible - a time to celebrate!
